About Flagstaff

Flagstaff, Arizona - San Francisco PeaksFlagstaff is located in beautiful Northern Arizona, nestled amid Ponderosa pine forests at 7,000 feet. Among the highest cities in the United States, Flagstaff sits at the base of the San Francisco Peaks, Arizona's highest point at just under 13,000 feet.

Once a resting place along the wagon route from the eastern United States to California, Flagstaff became a permanent settlement in 1881 when the railroad arrived. Historic Route 66 parallels the busy train tracks that still pass right through downtown Flagstaff. Highways I-17 and I-40 intersect here.

Flagstaff is the seat for Coconino County, whose boundaries contain the Hopi and much of the Navajo nation lands. Flagstaff is also home to Northern Arizona University. The Grand Canyon and Sedona are nearby, and the area abounds with national monuments, forests, and other destinations.
